Lon C. Hill Home

The historic Lon C. Hill Home at the Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum in Harlingen, Texas

The Lon C. Hill Home, built in 1904 by Harlingen’s founder Lon C. Hill, is one of the oldest historic structures connected to the city’s early development. The home was originally located at 1207 Fairpark Boulevard and was relocated to the museum complex in 1989 to preserve this important piece of Harlingen history.

Paso Real Stagecoach Inn

The Paso Real Stagecoach Inn dates back to the 1850s and was originally located

along the north bank of the Arroyo Colorado near Rio Hondo. It served as an important

way station on the stagecoach route that connected Alice and Brownsville, providing

rest and supplies for travelers moving through the region.

Harlingen Hospital

Harlingen Hospital was established in 1923 by Mrs. Ida Gilbert and nurse Marie Yeager.

This small ten-bed facility became the city’s first hospital and played a vital role in

providing medical care to early residents of the growing community.

H.E.B. Historical Building

Former Harlingen Army Airfield building donated by the H. E. Butt family to the museum

The H.E.B. Historical Building was originally part of the Harlingen Army Airfield, which

opened on Christmas Eve in 1941. The building housed the Air Police Squadron

Command and brig until the base closed in 1962. In 1967, the H. E. Butt family donated

the structure to the City of Harlingen for use as a museum.

Museum Welcome Center

The Museum Welcome Center serves as the main entrance to the Harlingen Arts and

Heritage Museum complex. The building features several gallery spaces that host a

variety of rotating art exhibits throughout the year, highlighting local and regional artists.

It is also home to a theater-style lecture hall used for educational programs,

presentations, and special events, as well as the museum gift shop, where visitors can

find unique items and souvenirs.
